Can I wear Karma Seaweed Underwear every day without a wash?
Well, this is awkward. But the short answer is yes. You could.
But that’s assuming you keep yourself clean. Catch our drift?
Unlike underwear made from pure cotton, or underwear containing polyester or nylon, Karma Seaweed Underwear is anti-bacterial and prevents any odour causing bacteria to settle onto the fabric. So yes, they can be worn for many days without a wash. That said, life happens, so use your judgment and refresh your Karma's with a quick hand wash and air dry as frequently as you require. Or at least hang them out to air sometime.
What about Karma Seaweed T-shirts?
Yes you can wear your Karma Seaweed T-shirts for several days without washing. The anti-microbial protection offered by the seaweed prevents bacteria settle onto the fabric and thereby prevents any odour. You can wear your T-shirt several days and nights without washing and they won't stink.
Having said that, it's best you air them every now and then. Like, wear one T-shirt during the day and another during night, and air them out in between rotations. That way you can go for several weeks in fact.
When I do wash my Karma Seaweed clothing, what are the care instructions?
Washing:
Karma Seaweed clothing can be washed in a regular washing machine at a normal or cool temperature setting up to 60°C / 140°F. You can use regular detergent, and avoid fabric softener or products with bleach.
You can also hand wash, which can be easier and quicker when travelling. When done, squeeze out excess water but do not twist or wring.
Drying:
After a wash lay your clothing flat on a towel or dry rack to air dry, flipping periodically. Do not leave directly in the sun to dry. You could tumble dry Karma Seaweed clothing, but we wouldn't. Tumble drying is never good for any type of garment.
Why doesn't the Karma Seaweed T-shirt smell bad, even if I wear it for days at a time?
To understand why Karma Seaweed doesn’t retain odor, it’s first important to understand why many shirts end up smelling after a wear or two. The sweat from your body doesn’t actually have any odor. But when it absorbs into materials like cotton or polyester, it becomes a breeding ground for bacteria - which is where those bad smells come from. Seaweed fiber doesn’t give sweat the opportunity to develop bacteria because it neutralizes them. There is a
To understand why Karma Seaweed clothes don't stink, we need to first understand why our clothes develop stink.
And to understand why our clothes stink, you must first understand why we stink.
OK, fine. Why do we stink? It all begins with sweat, of which humans have two kinds: eccrine and apocrine. Eccrine sweat is plentiful, watery, slightly salty, and it doesn’t really smell bad. You secrete it all over your body, unlike apocrine sweat, which only comes from glands in your pits and your groin. Apocrine sweat is the nasty stuff—a thick, oily fluid made up of fatty compounds.
But apocrine sweat still doesn’t stink on its own. Your skin’s microbiome—the cast of bacterial, fungal, and viral characters living on you right now—love to eat those fatty, oily compounds in apocrine sweat. And the molecular leftovers of that feeding frenzy are what stink. That’s how B.O. is made.
Those “odorous compounds,” as they call them in the biz, cling to the fibers in your clothes. And all of that watery eccrine sweat carries the compounds around your body and onto your clothes, exacerbating the stink.
